Job Description

We are looking for a passionate Surgical Technician or Endoscopy Technician to join our team at Central Oregon Surgery Center! This professional functions as a member of the surgical and endoscopy healthcare team and performs clinical duties that are required for safe and efficient surgical and endoscopy procedures.

 

In this role, the Certified Surgical Technician (CST) will primarily act as a surgical first assistant for a variety of surgical cases.  Standard first assistant tasks such as positioning, draping, holding arthroscopes, and retracting will be required, as well as assisting with room turnover in between cases.

 

Under the supervision of the physician or the registered nurse assisting with procedures such as, but not limited to:

  • Admission of endoscopic patients.
  • Assisting in minor procedures. Example: PEG tube placements.
  • Assisting in post sedation recovery of endoscopic patients.
  • Assisting with examinations or other procedures as requested by the physician or registered nurse.


Fulfill environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include:

  • Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, scopes, instruments and equipment between patient
    visits.
  • Processing instruments, scopes according to procedure.
  • Restocking supplies.

Fulfill organizational responsibilities that include:

  • Respecting/promoting patient rights.
  • Responding appropriately to emergency codes.
  • Sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors,

After proper instruction and return demonstration, the endoscopic technician shall be able to perform the following functions:

  • Obtain medical history and vital signs of pre-endoscopy patients.
  • Set up the procedure room for specific endoscopy procedures using proper technique.
  • Assist the patient to the procedure room and provide emotional support.
  • Restock linen in department.
  • Operate autoclaves in proper manner.
  • Wash, rinse and disinfect scopes and instruments.
  • Fill out forms correctly, log tests in proper log, prepare tests according to laboratory policy, and store tests appropriately.
  • Restock and clean designated areas.

Environment of Care:

  • Provides physical safety for the patient.
  • Maintains aseptic, safe, controlled environment.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality as regulated by HIPAA.
  • Observe regulations governed by OSHA, state of Oregon and other agencies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
  • Surgical Technologist Certification from a Program Certified by the National Board of Surgical
  • Technologist and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Accepted applicants may have 2 years’ experience in Athletic training, Medical Assisting, DME experience, orthopedic clinic experience, sterile processing, and the ability to sit for NBSTSA
  • Current health records with the appropriate immunization to work in the health care field (Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis).

General Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings.

This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
